The Hive Coworking Space has officially opened its door for freelancers, start-ups and established businesses to connect and grow their business to the next level.
The opening ceremony of the facility at Jalan Kwang Tung here on Friday (March 25) was officiated by the State Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, who also witnessed the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between The Hive Coworking Space and multilateral parties.
The parties involved were Junior Chamber International (JCI) Miri, Horizn Digital Sdn Bhd, Beamstart and Eventsize, as well as Miri Entrepreneurs & Incubator Club.
Businesses and organisations can use The Hive Coworking Space for activities, discussions and meetings. The facility has 25 private rooms that can be rented out on an hourly basis.
Lee, in his officiating speech, viewed the setting up of such facility as one that is commendable in bringing local entrepreneurs together, while moving forward with digitalisation and innovation.
“Sarawak government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been gearing the state from relying on non-renewable resources to embracing the digital world.
“Space sharing is a good step towards sustainable use of space, thus, the Hive Coworking, which has the participation and support of many entities, shows that the entrepreneurial communities here are ready for new challenges,” said Lee.
“To build a co-working community is no easy feat as it requires dedication, open-mindedness and also the willingness to collaborate with all members of society,” he added.
Also present at the opening ceremony were Pujut assemblyman and mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang; councillor Aries Leong who represented Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew; The Hive Co-Working Space director Paul Pui; Dynasty Hotel Managing director Tony Pui; Horizn Digital Sdn Bhd director Steven Wee; founder of Beamstart and Eventsize Kenneth Ho and representative of Genesis Co-Working Space councillor Leslie Lau.
